Caterham Seven - 1974

This vehicle represents the start of where the Caterham Super Seven story begins as it may well be the oldest surviving example.

The story of the Super Seven can , of course be traced back to 1957 when a young Colin Chapman and his fledgling Lotus company designed a vehicle for the road and track that would appeal to the masses by being supplied at an affordable price in kit form.

By 1966, Caterham Cars in surrey had become the sole concessionaire for the Super seven, so, when Lotus cars announced in 1973 that production was to cease as part of a general push upmarket, it was natural progression that Caterham Cars should continue with production of the still popular model.

We believe the vehicle on offer here to be one of the first six produced by Caterham cars. Factory fitted with the more powerful (126BHP) twin cam engine option & the benefit of a large history portfolio. The original chassis plate confirms that the Twin Cam engine was fitted when new and the original bill of sale is present. Spec;

Twin-Cam Lotus 126, 1558cc Engine.

Complete with Big-Valve Cylinder Head & Fed by a pair of twin-choke Dellorto Carburettors.

Four-Speed Transmission

The bodywork is finished in a combination of Orange/Red and polished aluminium.
