After 15,000 miles in 16 months I let the GT2 go to its new home this afternoon... RSJ Sports Cars in Slough. Joel put a fair price on the table and seemed pretty chuffed with the car, hopefully he'll find a good new home for it.

It's been a pleasure owning such a car and I feel lucky to have been able to. Apart from the usual issues you get with a 996 the car didn't put a foot wrong the entire time.

My next car won't be a Porsche but I'm certain I'll be back in one within the next 12 months. So, if anyone's in the market for a completely standard, all original panels, very tidy GT2 for a bargain price then get yourself over to see Joel at RSJ, there aren't many left like this.

Cheers

Oh, and I've got a brand new GT2 splitter in the garage if anyone wants it!

I saw you mention it's probable replacement (AM Vantage) in another thread. I'd be interested in how that turns out - I was sorely tempted to go that way, but couldn't convince myself that it would work reliably as a daily driver. I might still head that way one day though if your experience is positive.

If Joel gave you a 'fair' price for it, I doubt it's going to be a 'bargain' price by the time it hits his forecourt....

I can live in hope, however. smile

Let me know how much you want for the splitter, seems to get through them every six months or so...

Hope you have fun with the new motor.

Don't want to get into a discussion about dealer profit margins etc. It's enough to say that I feel that the price I got for it was at the top of what dealers were offering. I just don't have the time/energy to deal with trying to sell it privately so I'll happily take a knock on the price and have the cash in the bank, not for everyone but it's my preferred way of selling my cars.

As for the next car. I'm looking at an AMV8 next week, it's a completely different proposition and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I loved driving the GT2 but I've slowly realised that I'm not a GT2 driver, if that makes sense.

I still fancy owning a 997S gen 2 and a 997GT2 so I'll be back in a Porsche at some point.

The splitter cost £130 from OPC a few months ago. £50 sound fair?

Hi mate,

As you know I've been thinking of letting it go for months now, got sick of thinking about it, might be a mistake but not thinking about that now.

As for the splitter, probably likely to see you soon Kal so easier if you have it, sorry SpeedYellow.

I drove an AMV8 on a track, and it was the one that I didnt expect to like, but it was suprising - go-kart like, nimble and great noise.

But I just couldnt buy one.

Try and drive it for more than a quick blat and see how you feel.

As long as you are not in a hurry to get a new car (you can drive the family wagon), I think you should try a variety of things.

There are always interesting Porsches for sale (like the White X51 997 C4S with Aerokit that went recently). Cars with random colours, huge spec.. you are in a great position to get something great.. so just sit tight

Totally with you there 996 GT2, I had mine in the classifieds for nearly six months, FSH, freshly serviced, the front end freshly painted (to rectify stonechips) new tyres, new brakes, new rear dampers, freshly geo'd etc etc, a few timewasters were the ONLY responses I got.

Lots of, wrong colour (midnight blue) wrong seats (comfort) wrong brakes (brand new Porsche steels) type Emails.

Helloooo, it's an immaculate, original panel, NEVER crashed, unmodified 996 GT2 rolleyes wrap it in a different colour if you must, bolt in a set of bucket seats if you want to track it (and if you do want to track it it's already got steel brakes fitted) smash

In short no takers whatsoever, so I finally traded it to Henry at 911 V, he in turn sold it within two weeks ! ! And in the process described it as a perfect example with the best condition 996 interior they'd ever seen. Period

I can fully appreciate why (to put it bluntly) you can't be arsed with the whole process of selling your cars to Joe public ! !

I fully understand your "not a GT2 driver" comment too. They're very much an aquired taste IMO. I thoroughly regretted selling my MK1 996 GT3 to finance the purchase of the GT2.(so much so that after two and a half years without the GT3, I bought it back !) I don't see myself ever going back to a 996 GT2. . . . . As another contributor to this forum has found out over the last few days, the 997 GT3/ RS is a far better all round (and less compromised) package.
Enjoy your Aston ! smile

Just about to sell my 2001 silver Gt2 23,000 miles to a dealer within the next week for much the same reasons. If there's anyone out there poised to buy one (who has cash and avoided the 'messer' gene) might be worth getting in touch. Or you could wait a week and buy it for £10k more.

Hello Henry,

Would love to take and then send you some photo`s, but I have`nt managed to stop driving her yet! ..was today over some glorious roads in and around the whitby area..the RS handled like a dream, the noise is fkING EPIC, I keep saying this..I`ve had this car a week today and already love it, its also helping me forget the horrid time I`m having with full insurance settlement on 996 GT2...still to be fully settled....! "ELEPHANT", more like GOAT`S

I`m gonna take some pics and also do a little bit of a write up on my thoughts of this german masterclass, the 997 GT3 RS! I LOVE IT

Cheers

I do identify with this post, used to try and sell my 911's privately, what a laugh used to love the emails saying wrong colour. Back to dealer now on every occasion and they pay more biggrin

I have to say that after the initial high of actually owning an AM the V8 Vantage was a bit of a disappointment. Initially you're blown away by what a stunning looking car you're sat in and the awesome exhaust note....BUT....ultimately I found the performance a let down and the exhaust note frustrating in that you hear the sound but don't feel the accompanying thrust! I also found the manual box very heavy from 1st to 2nd expecially from cold and it wasn't improved that much by a revised linkage and gearbox oil.

Positively my local dealer was exceptional and even though I'm now aware of the cars shortcomings I still (occasionally!) hanker after one again.
