Saturday 7th November quote
Hey guys,

Just thought I would throw my little dilema out there. I'm 25 yrs old, 6 years NCB and up until 1 month ago had a totally clean driving license. However within the space of a week; I received a 3 point penalty for parking on zigzags and have then also been summoned to court for "failing to provide ID of a driver" following a NIP for alleged speeding which carried a 6 point penalty.

The thing is I did tell them that I was driving when the alleged speeding offence took place but I also told them that I did not believe I was doing the stated speed (88mph in a 70 limit.) I have a very strong case and the specialist motoring lawyer that is dealing with it for me thinks I have a very strong chance of me winning the case without it even going to court. But like everything in our legal system; it is taking a very long time for any progress to be made and nothing is certain.

I had been planning to buy a 360 Modena round this time of year; but now because of my potential 9 points; I thought the sensible thing would be to wait and see how my trial goes. With 9 points I will be just one traffic violation away from a potential ban (driving a Ferrari definately won't help) and secondly; I'm sure my insurance premiuim will go through the roof.

But just this evening; I saw a black 360 Modena parked up and it looked beautiful; I suddenly want one asap again. IF I do get the full 9 points; it will be another 3 years before the points are removed which is a long long time to wait to own a supercar.

What would you do? Does anyone know off hand how much insurance premiums go up by with 9 points? I had been quoted around £1200 when I had a clean license.

About 10 years ago I managed to accumulate 12 points through sp30's mainly. I lost my licence for 6 months. When I got my licence back, trying to get insured was awful, companies either wouldn't touch me, or charged so much, I couldn't afford it. The car I was trying to insure was a 1.8 astra! Do what ever you can to avoid getting these points at whatever cost!

I had 9 points (3+6) on my license for speeding when I got my first Porsche. The insurers said they weren't that worried about speeding and it didn't have any effect on the premium (that I could tell). Easiest answer for you is to go get some quotes I think.

you will be ok as you are not young and have good NCB.

However, parking on zigzags?

Speeding is one thing, failing to name the driver is another that the insurance companies take a dim view of and consequently load the premium (maybe they think its an indicator of dishonesty?).

Yeah, on zigzags on my 25th Birthday. I had always planned to get a good car when I turned 25 due to insurance becoming more reasonable, but what irony that I get my first points on my 25th Birthday! Sods law. I really did not see the zigzags as there were cars parked all along them and I just pulled into a spot that another car got out from. The thing is that the police only asked after my car and not any of the other cars parked on the zigzags. They asked me "What made you think you could park THAT car in THAT spot?"

Anyway, going to phone up for quotes tommorow; Admiral used to quote me the cheapest price (when I had no points) and the others were way off the mark.
