Was the protracted build-up to this week's launch of the McLaren 570S just a smokescreen for a more exciting car? An insider who said he'd be 'cast into the fires of hell' if we said anything (sorry, publish and be damned...) has let slip details of a new open top speedster-style track car putting a minimalist twist on McLaren's existing Monocell chassis. A slightly detuned version of the 670LT motor putting out 666hp has apparently been paired with some distinctive looking aero, including a triangular extension to the tail and appendages nicknamed 'horns' up front.
A modern twist on the M1, with horns on?
Developed under the codename Project Beelzebub, in a provocative move the 666S will only be offered in bright red and no roof or other weather protection will be available. On the plus side the seat heaters are said to be 'like hot coals' and straight-through exhausts promise flames and noise like a thousand tormented souls.
If we have to sell our own souls to find out more we'll do exactly that - watch this space!
