Mercedes E-Class
sounds all very worthy and well suited to the current executive car market. But while new diesel engines, additional space and more driver assists will appeal to most, they aren't exactly features to capture PH hearts and minds. Twin-turbo V8s on the other hand...
Drifting into the petrol station? Nice! Ahem...
So here's the AMG E63 out winter testing, our first look at the flagship since the standard car was revealed. Furthermore, following the first prototype images
last summer
, it was confirmed at the
C63 Coupe
launch that the E63 will use its new rear axle too. Tobias Moers' assertion that it will provide "More precision" should come in handy with around 600hp rumoured!
There isn't a great deal to say about the styling from these shots, but expect something pretty similar to the C63 given how closely aligned the standard cars are. What can be seen here is a lower front splitter than standard plus four exhausts out the back, melting snow and proving this is most definitely not an E-Class EV. That and the stop at a petrol station...
This E63 will be the first time four-wheel drive will be offered in right-hand drive AMG E-Classes; there's no confirmation yet but a saloon and estate should be offered, along with standard and 'S' models. As for a launch date, it's best to look back to the C-Class; for that the AMG was announced nine months after the standard car. Following that logic would put the E63 right on schedule for a debut at the Paris show. Who would bet against there being a new M5 there too?
