Elise S1 111S

More power - more fun

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, the 111S uses the Rover 1.8 K series unit but with the Variable Valve Control (VVC) and a close ratio gearbox.

This gives a lot more poke (143bhp) making it a very desirable little car. Sixty can be reached in 5.38 secs and it will reach 133mph.

Distinguishing features include 111S decals, wider rear tyres, 6-spoke wheels, a spoiler, a different grille and a carbon effect dash.

I love my little 111s and will not ever part with it. You want luxury and ride comfort, then dont get one. If you want fun and a increased heart rate,,,,, THEN the S1 111s is the tool.

I bought an S1 111S in 2003 for 15,350 at 16000 miles and sold it about six months later for 14250 at 27000 miles to a garage as I could not be arsed with test pilots.

Used it daily and spent a lot of time on the motorway but constantly found...

Finaly bought an Elise this year. An S1 118, can understand the comments about lack of torque especialy top end but on any B road nothing can touch you. So far mines been reliable and never fales to return less than 50mpg, top top fun.

Been driving the elise for nearly a year now. Used it initially as my daily driver (for about 6 months). Now it's a second car to my 1997 Fiat Punto!!
Love the Elise, but did find it just that bit too annoying to drive every day to work. Roads in ...

Had a completely standard S1 previously and the VVC engine makes all the difference.... sure you could wish for more, but the 111S has 'enough'.

Sounded pants though, so had an eliseparts exhaust, 160TB and Hurricane fitted before I took deli...

even after owning it for some time it still makes me smile everytime I go out for a drive. it takes a bit of getting used to, and to be honest I've still got a lot to learn to really drive the socks off it, but i would recommend it to anyone...

Has that little extra that the standard car could do with. I've see 0-60 figures in other publications saying 5 or 5.1 and my induction kit, and sports exhaust must be helping me with these figures.

Mid range is also improved as a result of the...

"Fantastic car. Just needs more power."

Having moved up to a more powerful car, I didn't appreciate what I was missing in the midrange area until I moved on. Especially when it came to overtaking.

Apart from that great memories. Excluding dealing with London Lotus, that is.

I used to own sports cars in my 20s, now 30 years later, the bug got me again, the kids are grown up and I had the cash. After trying lots of old and new sports cars in the Classic Car Club for a year, test driving TVRs, Porsche 911s, Ferrari, BMWs, Boxs...

Needs a sports exhaust to make it give the RIGHT noises, but docile and easy to drive whilst tootling about town. Once you get the old VVC working though, with the exhaust, its a great, addictive noise and the performance accleration wise is excellent. ...

The 111s had the best total package of the elise variants - the most civilised on the road, and the ability to keep going stongly all the way to 135mph.

I owned one for about 18 months - I did three track days, took it to Le Mans and a number ...
