Anyone who knows hot hatches will know that Renault Sport have made some of the best driver-focused cars of our time, with you voting in Renault for five of the top ten hot hatches of the 21st century. Sadly, Renault Sport is no more. They’re not making any more of these cars people.

What we have here is not the Nürburgring record breaking Trophy-R, but the next best thing that won’t cost anywhere near as much to buy, and benefits from rear seats too. The 275 Trophy cost from £28,930 new and was basically a 'best of' package, comprising the Cup chassis and mechanical limited-slip differential, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, remapped engine and a full complement of seats and creature comforts. And some stickers.

This car was specified with the optional Ohlins Road & Track dampers and desirable 19” Speedline Turini alloy wheels. The seller has owned the car for just over two years alongside a C63 AMG, but due to busy family life, has decided to let it go for someone else to enjoy.

● There’s no mistaking this Megane for a cooking model, with lashings of carbon fibre and Alcantara clearly marking the interior as the work of Renault Sport

● The Trophy-specific leather/Alcantara Recaro seats present well, with the usual bolster wear that is common with these bucket seats

● The Alcantara trimmed steering wheel, gear gaiter and handbrake handle cover are all in good condition

● The carpets and headlining are all in good condition, although it would benefit from a fresh set of floor mats

● The air-conditioning blows cold although there are a couple of cells not working to the right of the climate control panel – a replacement climate control panel will be supplied with the car

● There is a tyre pressure monitor warning light on the dash

● In all, a tidy interior that can be cleaned up for not too much money

● The 275 Trophy was available in Liquid Yellow, Oyster Grey, Pearl White, Glacier White or Diamond Black, with this car being finished in the latter

● The owner had the rear quarter Trophy decals removed for a more subtle look

● There are a few marks commensurate with age and the bonnet is fitted with PPF

● There are stone chips on the silver front bumper blade with a small crack

● The desirable 19” Speedline Turini alloy wheels are unmarked and shod in Toyo Proxes on the front that have covered 2,000 miles, and Dunlop Sport Maxx on the rear that are getting low and will need replacing soon

● The carbon fibre Akrapovic exhaust trim will let those in the know that this car is sporting a titanium exhaust from the factory, with a small depression visible in the bumper above it

● In summary, this is no garage queen but fair condition for the age

● The owner reports that the car is in good mechanical condition with no known faults

● Under the bonnet, the turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-pot is rated at 275hp and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox

● Four-pot Brembos at the front provide some serious stopping power and all four calipers appear to be in good condition cosmetically

● The adjustable Ohlins dampers have not been rebuilt however the seller reports that there are no unwanted knocking noises to indicate they should be

● The factory fitted titanium Akrapovic exhaust is sure to put a smile on your face

● Whether on road or track, it promises to be enormous fun to drive
