Overview
It’s a tribute to the hard work and dedication of Andreas Preuninger’s team that the GT3 moniker has become a world-renowned indicator of the enthusiast’s 911, a finely honed driver’s car. While it must help that the basic recipe, i.e. a 911, is one that’s been continuously refined over decades, Herr Preuninger, the petrolhead’s petrolhead, has steered a course with his operation that has given each iteration of the GT3 an enviable reputation.
The 991.2 edition of the 911 GT3 is of course no exception and, in addition to the aero and rear wheel steering that made such an impression with its predecessor, the revised model featured a motorsport-derived 4.0-litre version of the marque’s flat six which produced 500hp and revved to 9,000rpm. Yes, you did read that correctly. In doing so, it produced one of the all-time great soundtracks and, when combined with the effect of detailed improvements to the brakes, steering, springs, dampers and control systems, it was, and remains, a real highlight of the Porsche 911 lineage.
This silver example is as about as understated in its appearance as you can get without opting for the wingless Touring model but there is definitely an allure to having the aero on show when you’re packing a motorsport-derived motor. The interior is nicely finished too, with just enough carbon to stay on the right side of classy, yellow seatbelts matching the colour of the brake calipers and an otherwise tasty and tasteful specification.
It's clearly been well looked after too, as it’s in fabulous condition both inside and out. With the less aggressive seats installed, it might be (almost) a racing car that you can daily, but its limited mileage and beautiful presentation mark it out as a car that’s been used sparingly. When new, it’s fair to say that Porsche made fewer of these cars than they could have sold and so if you can recall the squabbles over allocations when these cars were new, don’t miss out on your chance to own this lovely example now.

Interior
- Finished in black leather, carbon and Alcantara, the cabin is pleasingly restrained
- That’s not to say it doesn’t have its highlights: yellow seatbelts match the brake calipers, the seats are embroidered with the GT3 logo on the headrests, the storage compartment lid is finished in Alcantara with the Porsche Crest and the Sport Chrono package is also present
- It’s well equipped too, with seat heating, cruise control, a reversing camera, automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor and the passenger footwell storage net
- The steering wheel is also trimmed in Alcantara
- In terms of condition, it appears to be essentially as-new with even the driver’s seat bolsters showing only very minor signs of use
- Under the rear deck, there’s plenty more carbon fibre to be found
- The front boot is clean and tidy and houses the warning triangle
- In all, it’s sufficiently well equipped to cover the bases when it comes to both road and track driving and is in excellent order
Exterior
- The subtle metallic silver, together with deletion of the rear badge, makes this as stealthy a GT3 as you’re likely to find
- That said, the aero addenda and the stance provide a real sense of visual aggression
- The paintwork appears to be unmarked and the deletion of the front numberplate gives it a very clean appearance, though we’ll leave it to the next owner to decide if they want to argue that should they get pulled over
- Wheels are unmarked and painted in satin aluminium with Michelin rubber all round
- At the rear, the tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s, while the fronts are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
- Bi-Xenon main headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are installed
- Overall, it looks stunning and is sure to be a real head-turner, despite its restrained colour scheme
Mechanical
- Motorsport-derived 3,996cc flat-six
- Vital statistics as follows: 500hp @8,250rpm, 339 lb ft @6,000rpm, 0-62mph in 3.4sec, top speed 197mph
- 7-speed dual-clutch auto (PDK)
- Rear wheel drive
- Rear wheel steering
- Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB)
- Centre lock wheels
- Front axle lift system
- With an engine that revs to 9,000rpm and a soundtrack to die for, the GT3 makes for a very memorable driving experience
- Hugely capable on both the road and track
Summary
The GT3 is an iconic model in its own right and the 991.2 version is a highly regarded variant that was very hard to come by when it was new. A ferocious 4.0-litre flat six that revs to 9,000rpm combines with everyday usability to make for a fantastic all-rounder. This beautiful car has a restrained appearance and is in fabulous condition. Whoever the next owner is, we’ll be very jealous.
