Overview

Audis are everywhere these days. They’ve outflanked some venerable home-grown competition to achieve an enviable share of the cars on Britain’s roads. But it wasn’t always so, and you don’t have to delve too deep into the past to reach a time when an Audi was an unusual choice of mid-range family car.

The 1990 Audi 100 on offer here is not just a very practical family car — with its cavernous boot and spacious cabin. It also has the benefit of having been part of the VW heritage collection, and has been extremely well cared for. Even after it left the collection, this car was lucky to find itself in the care of sympathetic owners, with the result that in the past ten years it hasn’t even picked up a single MOT advisory.

It remains in superb condition inside and out. The pinstriping which runs the length of the car is intact, the cloth upholstery is excellent for its age, and the car is in a superb state of originality all round.

So if you want to return to the early 90s and experience the feel of executive motoring then this is probably one of the most historically accurate versions in the country. No unfortunate modifications, a huge history folder, and a general air of having been cosseted and tucked up snug and cosy in a warm garage. Cars don’t look this good when they’ve spent thirty years out on the street.

• This Audi’s body panels all appear to be very straight, with good shut lines

• There are only a few small blemishes, such as around the nearside tail light, and a chip on the driver’s door
• All window glass is original, etched with the car’s registration number
• 14-inch wheels retain their original Audi trims

• All the plastic trims look very well preserved, without significant sun damage or cracking
• The underside of the car is in excellent condition for its age

Mechanical

• In Aug 2020 the timing belt and water pump were replaced, and the cylinder head was refaced
