Overview

If you ever have the need to transport a wardrobe to the other side of the country in record time, then you’ll have considered doing it in an AMG C63 estate. The V8 engine provides plenty of power and the voluminous boot can swallow an enormous amount of luggage. So if you need to get the family to your Cornish campsite before the caravans have even been hitched, this is the car to do it in.

And what a car it is too: 470 bhp powering the rear wheels via a seven-speed transmission with lock-up clutch. Limited-slip differentials were fitted to this generation as standard, allowing you to make the most of the car’s power, without fearing the tempestuous British weather conditions. And when you want a little calm, you can slip it into comfort mode and waft your way home.

Finished in an attractive shade of ‘Brilliant Blue Metallic’ paint, this C63 remains very smartly presented. And the high-spec leather interior looks as though it has hardly been used. Specified with the Premium package from new, it comes with all the features you’d expect to see on a top of the range executive car, including a panoramic sunroof. The accompanying service records provide a reassuring story of annual trips to the workshop, with plenty of fluid changes having been carried out.

You can’t go wrong with a fast estate car. And a C63 of this vintage ticks all the boxes, being immensely practical and offering huge performance, accompanied by an uncorked soundtrack from the days before exhaust particulate filters were a thing. • 19-inch AMG alloy wheels have reportedly been recently refurbished and are in excellent condition with no obvious damage or scuffs that we could see
• Matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, reportedly fitted only 5,000 miles ago and retaining plenty of tread
• Mercedes three-pointed stars front and rear, V8 Biturbo badges on the wings but with no other badges on the bootlid for an uncluttered look

• The most recent MOT has an advisory for a slightly lipped rear brake disc, which the service centre reportedly did not recommend changing

Summary

The C63 estate is very much a cake-and-eat-it kind of car. Plenty of room, performance to spare and little in the way of dynamic compromises. Plus you still get to enjoy the raucous V8 soundtrack.
