Overview
The Honda Civic Type R FK2 made history by setting a new front-wheel-drive lap record at the Nürburgring, clocking in at 7:50.63 back in 2015, despite retaining its four-door, four-seat configuration. Improving one of the best front-wheel-drive platforms became a challenge for Mugen - Honda's trusted engine tuner and OEM parts manufacturer. After numerous hours of research and development, their solution was a combination of enhanced aerodynamics and weight reduction.
This, then, is not your average FK2. As the ex-Mugen Europe demo vehicle, originally owned by Mugen Europe, it features the full set of upgrades from the Mugen FK2 catalogue. Starting as a rare non-GT FK2 model, it already weighs 15 kg less than the GT version, providing the optimum starting point for Mugen's enhancements.
Additional weight reduction was achieved by removing the front fog lights units, installing MS-R bucket seats, a single-exit titanium exhaust, a GT wing and a set of 19” forged wheels. The Mugen body kit is not just a pretty face, either: it was tested in a wind tunnel for optimal aerodynamic efficiency (with pics showing this very car in testing shown in the brochure and on the Mugen website), adding function as well as a more sporting appearance.
Stepping inside this Type R, youʼd be forgiven for mistaking it for a far newer car, with its interior showing very few signs of use. In particular, the expensive seats are in excellent condition. Flashes of red stitching and trim pieces contrast the black upholstery and remind the driver of the carʼs considerable performance intentions.
A good deal of paperwork accompanies the car, with plenty of invoices for parts and servicing completed. It has clearly been well cared for, and has only had two previous keepers, the first of which was Mugen Europe[RA2]themselves. As such, it’s a rare beast and hugely desirable for anyone with an appreciation of Japanese performance cars and tuning.

Summary
Mugen is a name that is hugely respected in the Honda community and its upgrades carry a correspondingly hefty price tag. This FK2 has been indulged with just about everything they have to offer, making the already quick Civic Type R even quicker and more desirable.
It’s clearly been extremely well cared for too, as it’s in excellent condition throughout. If you want to be the envy of any JDM gathering, despite being in a UK-supplied car, then this an opportunity not to be missed.
