Overview

Bradford-based businessman Afzal Kahn began his career as an architect, before an unusually lucky break led him into becoming one of the world’s most famous car customisers.

As a lifelong car enthusiast and modifier, Kahn designed his own alloy wheel, which became known as the Kahn RS-R. With the help of an Italian manufacturer, in the space of a few months he’d sold over 1,000 sets, which was enough for him to take the plunge, leave behind his architecture career, and create some outlandishly opulent cars instead.

As a lover of luxury models and large SUVs, it’s no surprise that Kahn very quickly turned to Range Rovers as part of his styling portfolio, adding body kits, tuning parts and interior upgrades to his company’s already well-known wheels in order to provide a bespoke service to upmarket 4x4 fans across the globe – one of the most iconic of which was the Range Rover RS600, introduced in 2011.

As a collaboration with tuning firm, Cosworth, the uber-Range Rover was a £110k combination of glitz and excess, but retained the decorum and tastefulness of the standard L322 Autobiography that it was based upon, which was already a marvellous beast of a car – especially in its final facelift format, with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 under the bonnet.

This car is a tribute to the Kahn Cosworth models and, although not punching out almost 600bhp like the 2011-on examples, it has all of the genuine ‘Project Kahn’ parts including an RS front bumper spoiler, RS front bumper billet rings, RS side skirts with billet finish strips, RS rear bumper, rear diffuser, quad exhaust, rear lamps, matt black grill and wing vents and gargantuan 22-inch ‘RS-X’ alloy wheels.

Inside, it has Cosworth seats, rear DVD screens, Kahn kickplates, privacy glass and a Harman-Kardon Logic 7 stereo system. It is, beyond doubt, an imposing and very special car.

Now it can be yours – and for a fraction of what it cost its previous owner to build. If you want a classy, comfortable and quick SUV with a unique look and a super-smooth supercharged V8, you’ve found it.

Summary

If you want a car with a large engine and an even bigger presence, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one more distinctive or as imposing as this one.

Subtle, yet at the same time slightly menacing, it’s both a sumptuously equipped and mean-looking L322 that defines the principles of Project Kahn’s brand. It’s also very smart overall and appears to be in good mechanical health. A great example of a late L322, and of bespoke customisation.
