Overview
The more things change, the more they stay the same. That was certainly the mantra behind the Nissan 370Z, anyway, which built on a long lineage of iconic Z-badged models to ensure an affordable, enticing and engaging heritage remained unspoiled in the face of rapidly evolving modern technology.
When this car was built in 2019, it was, in many ways, quite substantially out of date. But to Z-Car lovers, that was very much its USP. A glorious anachronism, unspoilt by the march of driver assistance systems and in-car tech. A car in which the nuances of chassis control and the unfettered loveliness of a normally aspirated six-cylinder engine were left well-and-truly alone, for the connoisseur of GT motoring to thoroughly enjoy.
That’s why, when the final facelift of the car appeared in 2018, we sang its praises while other less passionate motoring media failed to appreciate its graces. Sure, it was a mild evolution of a design that was already 10 years old, but that made it a modern classic that you could still buy new off the peg.
We said at the time that it felt as modern as a PlayStation 2 in the era of the PS5, but that was never meant as a criticism. After all, some of us still have a first-generation PlayStation just so we can play Colin McRae Rally and TOCA2 – experiences that may feel increasingly analogue in an evolving digital world, but are no less fun because of it.
After all, what’s not to like about a 328bhp, 3.7-litre V6, with a six-speed manual gearbox, 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds and a top speed electronically pegged at 155mph, in a car that’s still light enough to feel like a proper sports car even if it does have a weighty old powerplant buried in its snout?
If you want a new-ish car with an old-school appeal, then this example is one that’s hard to beat. Fast approaching its sixth birthday, it has covered a genuinely low mileage of under 11,000 and has been properly maintained within the Nissan dealership network since day one.
It’s immaculate. Keep it that way, and it’ll go from modern classic to bona fide classic in no time. While many other 2019 cars fall victim to technological obsolescence, this one will remain desirable forever.

Summary
If you want all the convenience, comfort and accoutrements of a modern car without all the annoying driver assistance systems, touchscreens and multiple drive modes, then the 370Z has a delightfully analogue appeal that grows more charming with each evolution of the new car market.
An old-school, rear-drive sports GT with a great chassis, linear acceleration from a punchy, normally-aspirated V6 petrol engine and a slick six-speed manual, it’s one of the last of a dying breed – a car the likes of which will never be seen again. This one is such a low-mileage and tidy example that it’d be a good one to put away, but only if you can resist its increasingly appealing allure.
