Overview

Put four wheels underneath a spaceship, make it suitable for day-to-day driving, and you’d end up with a 911 Turbo. In non-turbo form, the 911 is the benchmark that all other ‘prestige’ sports cars are measured against, in Turbo form, you’re into bona-fide supercar territory, yet still retaining all of the wonderful day-to-day usability and practicality that the 911 is so renowned for.

This particular 997 Turbo is a pre-facelift ‘.1’ example, and was purchased by the seller in July 2020. The car boasts an extensive service history comprising OPC and marque specialist servicing. Clearly cherished and maintained diligently, the current owner has invested significantly in maintaining and enhancing the vehicle, reflected by various tasteful upgrades that improve the driving experience.

Oh, and it’s a manual. With three pedals. And 530bhp. What’s not to like?

History and documentation

  • Registered 04 Jan 2007

  • Stamped service book with services as follows: May 2009 @ 11,908 miles, Mar 2012 @ 21,966 miles, Oct 2014 @ 28,158 miles, Nov 2016 @ 30,957 miles, Feb 2019 @ 33,463 miles, Oct 2021 @ 36,845 miles

  • The seller states that further servicing has been carried out in his ownership, with invoices to substantiate this, though the book is not stamped as such

  • Invoice for front coolant pipes, rear lower control arms, alignment in Feb 2023

  • We’re told there is an invoice for recent reconditioning of the original turbochargers

  • A stainless steel exhaust has been fitted to the car, but the original item is available for the next owner

  • The seller notes that the air-conditioning condensers, a re-gas and a new battery will be carried out / fitted prior to the sale of the vehicle

  • Full document pack

  • Collection of invoices and old tax discs

  • Two keys

  • Current MOT expires 15 Dec 2025, with one advisory for a nail in the offside rear tyre

  • V5 present in owner’s name

  • HPI clear, with only a marker for plate transfer

  • London ULEZ compliant

  • Private Plate F1 XCB to be retained by seller at point of sale

Interior

  • The interior of this 997.1 Turbo is in exemplary condition throughout

  • Memory driver’s seat function

  • BOSE audio

  • Original PCM unit

  • Mount for in-car phone

  • OE Porsche over-mats

  • The ‘sports’ seats are in very good condition, with only very light wear

  • Both door cards are in good shape

  • Light marks to the ‘Turbo’ door kick plates

  • Slight scuffs to the rears of both front seats

  • The seller states “that the fan / temp rocker switches could do with replacing”

  • We noted a few areas that the ‘soft touch’ covering is wearing away on the centre console

  • The frunk is nice and tidy, with the warning triangle, CD changer and oil bottle pouch still present-and-correct

  • The seller notes that there is a CD stuck in the headunit slot, but there are no other known faults

Exterior

  • Finished in silver with the correct 997.1 ‘Turbo’ wheels, this example presents very well overall

  • We noted that both the front and rear bumpers look to be a slightly different shade of silver

  • All four wheels - wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres - present well with only light wear, though the offside front wheel has some corrosion through the lacquer

  • Looking closer, there are some stone chips to the front end - typical of any high-performance car

  • There is a larger scratch present on the nearside corner of the front bumper adjacent to the fog light

  • Underneath the bumper, the black plastic splitter wears a few light scuffs

  • The seller notes there is a small crack in the offside headlight from a stone, though it is largely hidden unless inspected up-close

  • Overall, this is a very well-kept example of the gen-1 Turbo, which would be at home in a car collection of any calibre

Mechanical

  • 3.6-litre ‘Mezger’ flat-six engine, lightly remapped to 530bhp

  • Six-speed manual gearbox

  • All-wheel drive

  • The seller states the brakes are as “keen as you’d expect” and don’t pull to the side

  • This 997 has been given a few choice upgrades, including a stainless steel exhaust system, large-diameter exhaust manifolds, high-flow 200-cell catalytic converters, a factory-fit short-shifter and a light remap to push power to a safe and usable 530bhp

  • We’re told that the exhaust is a “little louder than stock, but does not drone on the motorway”

  • In the rear, the Mezger engine presents very well

  • There are no reported faults or issues, with our vendor telling us that this is an “all round fantastic example of the marque with all major works completed when required”

Summary

For those looking to drive a veritable rocket ship on a daily basis, yet still with need of a 2+2 seating arrangement, plenty of luggage space and safety in all weathers thanks to an all-wheel-drive system, we can think of no better car to fit the bill than a Porsche 911 Turbo, and this looks to be a fantastic example of Porsche’s everyday supercar.

Carefully maintained, thoughtfully upgraded, and benefiting from substantial recent investment, this example addresses many of the common 997 Turbo concerns such as coolant pipes and turbochargers.

Go on, you know you want to. After all, as Jeremy Clarkson once said “If you have a powerful car, you can get home at night more quickly, meaning you get more time to spend with your family” meaning that not only is this Porsche an investment for you, it’s also an investment for your loved ones…
