Overview
Everyone loves a Jag: the quintessential British luxury and sports car brand having a distinct niche in the market where outright character meets a combination of old-school appeal and technological brilliance. It’s impossible to pinpoint exactly what it is about a Jaguar that appeals so much, but its fusion of tradition and modern is like no other car brand on the market.
The company’s second iteration of the XK8 is a case in point. It marked a massive step forward for the brand, replacing the steel-bodied original, which shared much of its floorpan with the XJS, with an all-new platform and an advanced all-aluminium structure, yet in a swooping GT body that was as traditional as every British grand tourer before it. A delightful traditionalist on top, and a high-tech sports car beneath.
Styled by Ian Callum – designer of the Aston Martin Vanquish – the new XK (codenamed X150) debuted at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show. Its distinctive grille, which recalled the shape of the 1961 E-Type, left customers with no doubt whatsoever about its influences or Jaguar’s positioning of the new car.
It featured a bonded and riveted aluminium sub-structure, shared with the XJ, and alloy body panels. It was also the first car in the world to feature under-bonnet airbags to improve pedestrian protection. By employing such technology, Jaguar could meet its pedestrian protection requirements without having to make the front end of the car tall and ungainly – unlike most cars built in the late 2000s, where Euro NCAP rules mandated that a gap of 100mm existed between the underside of the bonnet and the top of a car’s engine.
This one is a pre-facelift car, meaning it has the original 4.2-litre supercharged V8 under the bonnet and 420bhp to play with. Its phenomenal power delivery and howling induction noise make it far more addictive to drive than any big GT has a right to be. We’re not complaining…
The vendor is only the car’s second owner, and he acquired it in 2023 directly from a Jaguar main dealer whose predecessor had supplied it new. It’s a low-mileage car with just over 42,000 on the clock, and has had two main dealer services in the past two years.
If you want a red-blooded muscle car, but one which goes about its duties with discretion, then this is a remarkable opportunity to get your hands on a really good one.

Summary
There aren’t many early X150s left with this kind of mileage, but this car has obviously been cherished and well-loved throughout its life – it’s a lovely example, presented in terrific condition both inside and out.
That gives it dual appeal. If you want a supercharged Jaguar to play with (and trust us… you do) then you’re unlikely to find a better one. Or if you’re a collector, this is an extremely well-preserved example on an XKR. Either way, it’s a gem of a car.
