Overview

Homologation cars will always hold a special place in our hearts here at PistonHeads, and the Lancia Delta Integrale is no exception, particularly in ‘Evo’ form as seen here. The heady days of Group A rallying may be a distant memory, but due to the regulations at the time, the Homologation vehicles are far more closely related to their fire-breathing competition brethren than their Group B predecessors, and as a result, mere mortals such as us can live out 90% of our Group A rallying fantasies on the road in day-to-day life and ride that wave of nostalgia out into the sunset.

Not only was the Integrale iconic, but it was successful as well. In its Group A days, the Integrale in all its forms chalked up a total of 46 WRC wins, including taking the driver and constructors’ championships in its debut year.

The Evo II was the final incarnation of the Homologation Integrales, representing the pinnacle of Lancia’s road-going development at the time. With 215 bhp on tap, all-wheel drive, a responsive chassis and plenty of get-up-and-go, not to mention those iconic boxed arches and aggressive front end, it was about as close as you could get to a Group A rally car in a showroom.

This particular car was originally delivered to Japan and registered in April 1994, before being imported into the UK, where it was registered in May 2008. It was purchased by our vendor in July of the same year, and almost immediately shipped to well-known and highly regarded specialist Zagato Lancia in London for a full once-over, with the aim of addressing any faults or issues so that this Lancia could be enjoyed “without compromise”.

Dry-stored in a heated garage and only enjoyed in good weather throughout his ownership, recent years have seen this icon of Italian engineering used less often, usually just for runs to keep everything in full-working order and to see the MOT examiner. As a result, as well as an impending relocation overseas, the decision has been made that it is time for this beautiful Lord Blue Evo II to head to pastures new.

History and documentation

  • Registered in the UK 25 May 2008

  • Extensive history of invoices and Japanese service records

  • Invoices from the major check-over by Zagato Lancia, as well as further works by various marque specialists and independent garages

  • Full handbook pack

  • Collection of old MOT certificates

  • Two keys / fobs

  • Current MOT with no advisories expires 3 Apr 2026

  • V5 present in owner’s name, showing 1 former UK keeper

  • HPI clear

  • Included with the sale of the vehicle is a bespoke aluminium radiator, and a replacement driver’s outer bolster foam

Interior

  • Finished in tan with lashings of alcantara trimmings, the interior of this Evo II is in generally very good condition, with some ageing visible to both front seats as expected from a vehicle of this age

  • Specifically, the outer bolsters (both upper and lower) on the drivers seat are heavily worn with a few holes in the fabric

  • The front passenger seat also exhibits some small rips and wear patches to the seat cover and base

  • The MOMO Corse steering wheel is typically patinated, with signs of wear from years of enjoyment

  • OMP ‘final edition’ pedals have been fitted

  • Push-button start has also been fitted to this EVO II, as seen in ‘final edition’ cars

  • Ahead of the driver, the dashboard looks to be in great shape, while the iconic instrument cluster graphics are crisp and clear

  • All four door cards are in great shape, with only light usage wear noted

  • In the rear, both seats are in excellent condition with minimal wear visible

  • Elsewhere, we noted some wear-and-tear to high traffic areas such as worn graphics on switches, some scuffs on the inner door jambs, a small scab of corrosion on the inside of the rear nearside door, and wear around the base of the shifter

  • The luggage compartment is tidy throughout, and a brace of aftermarket speakers have been fitted to the parcel shelf

  • No reported faults

Exterior

  • Resplendent in lesser-seen Lord Blue, this Integrale Evo II still cuts an aggressive silhouette all these years later, and is in generally excellent condition

  • The front end displays the expected smattering of stone chips, as do the mirror caps and exposed edges

  • There are no reported incidences of accident damage, and the bodywork looks straight and tidy to our eyes

  • Aftermarket headlights have been fitted, retaining the classic look of the Integrale’s front end but improving night-time visibility

  • In direct sunlight, the paintwork exhibits a number of ‘swirl’ marks that would likely be corrected by an experienced detailer

  • Elsewhere, there is some light patination to the chrome details such as the grilles, abrasions to the door pull handles and a pin dent in the bonnet below the offside edge of the upper intake grille

  • All four wheels are in very good order, with a few small kerb rash patches and chips visible up-close

  • Avon tyres fitted to all four wheels

  • Overall, this is a very smart-looking example of the iconic Group A hero that leaves some further scope for aesthetic refinement by a fastidious owner - ideal for a few weekends tucked away in the garage!

Mechanical

  • 1,995 cc inline-four turbocharged engine producing 215 bhp at 5,750 rpm and 232 lb ft of torque at 2,500rpm

  • Five-speed manual transmission

  • All-wheel drive, with a slight bias towards the rear wheels

  • This particular Evo II boasts a number of considerate upgrades including a rear strut brace, adjustable coilover suspension and upgraded headlights

  • Under the bonnet, the engine bay looks tidy but would benefit from a full detailing if the next owner wishes to take it to the next level aesthetically

  • The red paintwork on the cam cover is slightly worn

  • An aftermarket silicone intake hose has been fitted

  • Japanese stickers remain throughout the engine bay, giving evidence of its past life

  • The under-bonnet insulation is looking a little worn

  • Overall, the engine bay is tidy throughout, with some typical wear and light corrosion to exposed fixtures and fittings

  • The seller tells us that this Integrale is in excellent health and ready to use and enjoy as desired

Summary

Who hasn’t imagined themselves flicking the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale around classic rallying stages, hearing the noise of the turbocharger and finding that perfect balance of oversteer as you round a tight hairpin left? Homologation cars such as this offered the general public the chance to experience 90% of those fantasies, and are now a long-lost piece of rallying history.

Offering the opportunity for one lucky bidder to obtain a Homologation Hero from the golden era of rallying, this ex-Japanese market Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II benefits from fastidious ownership, and is said to want for nothing other than a tank of fuel and regular use, which doesn’t seem like such a hardship to us.

Whether you’ll be spending your weekends terrorising lesser cars on B-roads or simply staring at the beautiful Giugiaro-penned lines and boxed arches, this Evo II would make a fine addition to any Group A, Italian car or hot hatch enthusiast’s garage.
