Overview
Before we begin to sing the praises of this extremely rare and lovely Audi S2 we’d first like to draw your attention to its number plate, which will appeal to sailors, manufacturers of pinboards, and polite Scandinavians alike. So if your name’s Sven and you use thumbtacks to pin up the nautical charts in your pilot house, then you’re in luck.
And if you don’t fit this niche demographic, then you’re still going to want to have a look at this Audi. The S2 is now solidly wedged into the Modern Classic category of cars which we had forgotten about. But it’s worth remembering for its smooth five-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive configuration. It followed the Quattro of the 1980s, and brought more rounded styling with a softer look.
Looking at it from a modern standpoint, the S2 still looks good. The sleek hatchback with its rear spoiler adds a touch of flair, and the three-door layout shows you it means business. And this particular example has been enhanced by the addition of a Miltek exhaust system to produce a melodious soundtrack as well.
The car is pleasantly original throughout, with a largely unchanged interior — other than some extra gauges and a slightly newer stereo head unit. So you can step straight back into the 1990s as you sink into the cloth seats and start up the 2.2-litre engine. And there’s even a proudly positioned locking differential button on the centre console.
If you hate arriving at an event to find out you’re wearing the same dress as somebody else, you’ll enjoy being safe in the knowledge that there are only a handful of S2s still on the road today. And one of them could be yours. Chances like this don’t come along very often.

Summary
It’s a shame that there aren’t many S2s left, because they’re a thoroughly lovely car. It’ll go pretty much anywhere and do anything you want, with its all-wheel drive transmission and smooth, five-cylinder engine. And you’ll be doing your bit to preserve a rare piece of automotive heritage.
This example looks just the ticket for its next owner to enjoy a rare modern classic coupe.
