EXTERIOR

Refined, practical and robust the E39 touring has been a staple on British roads ever since its launch in 1995, but this Alpina B10 variant is something altogether more special. Number 3 of just 19 cars to be produced its certainly a rarity on the road and carries with it a distinctly exclusive feel thanks to the trademark Alpina additions which include a sportier bodykit, twin tip exhaust, 18″ Softline alloys and a lowered ride height thanks to a revised suspension system.

Orient Blue Metallic paintwork shows with excellent depth and just a couple of minor age related blemishes to note, and is contrasted by the silver Deko set which completes the executive/performance car styling synonymous with the Alpina brand.

INTERIOR

Upholstered in classic Alpina fabric the interior of the B10 has a wonderful feel of 90s BMW nostalgia with some further Alpina finesse. A traditional pairing of green and blue details contrast the grey fabric which shows in good condition, free from any rips or stains the fabric upholstery wears its age much better than the later leather alternative.

Walnut wooden trim adorns the dashboard and doors, showing free from any signs of fading, whilst further Alpina details include the tonal stitched multi function steering wheel and genuine Alpina floor mats.

Despite the cars age there are still plenty of features that give a sense of refinement, with an electric sunroof, cruise control, dual zone climate control and an upgraded Alpine headunit with Bluetooth, DAB/FM Radio, USB inputs and a reverse camera. For those concerned with originality the factory correct unit is also included with the car.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Borrowing the S52B32 engine from the US market E36 M3, Alpina put a great deal of work into the motor to create an ideal balance of performance and practicality. Upgrades include an increased bore and stroke as well as a revised cylinder head, new exhaust manifold, lightweight pistons and a newly developed crankshaft. The end result is an output of 280 bhp which means a top speed of 156 mph and 0-60 mph in just 6.7 seconds.

Being an Alpina the idea of the 3.3 was to create accessible performance, and so the lightweight internals means the straight-6 can run at high revs for prolonged periods of time, perfect for eating up the miles on the Autobahn. Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and uprated Alpina exhaust the end result is a practical, fast touring which manages to be both engaging and comfortable on the road.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 18″ multi-spoke Softline Alpina alloys complete the striking styling of the B10 and present in good condition, with 1 minor scuff to note. Wheels are shod in a matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s with good depth remaining all around.

Not content with uprating the engine Alpina also upgraded the suspension and brakes to give a more capable and comfortable ride, with ventilated disc brakes all around, twin-tube gas pressure shocks and uprated anti-roll bars which transformed the handling of the car.

HISTORY FILE

Registered new by Sytner Nottingham on 11/06/99 this B10 3.3 Touring is chassis 003 of just 19 cars produced by Alpina in a 4 year production run, and cost the 1st owner over £46k as outlined by the original new vehicle invoice. Provenience of the car is superb, with letters from Sytner Nottingham confirming the VIN change and spec, as well as an original Alpina build sheet and German Fahrzeugbrief document.

The car stayed with the 1st owner until 2016, at which point it had covered 71k miles and been serviced 11 times by a combination of BMW main dealers and specialists as outlined by a comprehensive log of service and parts invoices. To date the B10 has had a further 3 owners and covered around 18k miles, with further service and parts invoices including new front discs in 2019 and a service in 2020 at 86,929 miles.

MOT certificates are present back til 2003 and help verify the mileage of the vehicle, with the current MOT free from advisories and valid til March 2022.

Present with the car is the comprehensive history file, genuine Alpina sales brochures, V5 and 2 sets of keys.
