Overview

If cars were animals, what would they be? An old Land Rover Defender would almost certainly be a mountain goat, or maybe a faithful old labrador. The R35 Nissan GT-R? Probably a panther. A 2CV is definitely a tortoise. But this relatively normal looking E63S estate? It’s a wolf. But not just any wolf, this is the kind of yellow-eyed, befanged psychopath that may like any other wolf, but can take down an entire herd of elk singlehanded, with barely a sound. This is the lurking beast that all those fairy tales warned you about.

Allow us to explain. You see, the “standard” E63S AMG already puts out a mildly unfeasible 612bhp and 627lb-ft. It is, as anyone who has driven it can tell you, sodding quick. Not “oh crikey, that’s rapid” quick. No, we’re talking “arrghhh, why are my internal organs rearranging” quick. But clearly, for the hero that’s owned this car over the last five years, it was a tad sedate. So, naturally, they’ve added the equivalent power output of an entire Ferrari 360 to it. Yup, that means a smidge more than 400bhp extra, for a grand total of (and you may need a lie down after reading this): 1,033bhp. Not to mention the world-rending 1,032lb-ft of torque.

Words very nearly fail us.

But power is nothing without control. And so they have also upgraded the brakes, suspension and other handling components, allowing the driver to truly exploit that bonkers power. Yet one of our favourite things about this car is what hasn’t been done – it’s been left relatively standard externally, with no real clue as to the unhinged insanity lurking beneath the gloss white paintwork.

Presented in lovely condition, with an incredible specification in terms of luxury and performance, this may just be the ultimate Q-car. Load it up with kids, suitcases and dogs, and it will still embarrass almost any supercar you care to mention. Oh, and it will do so while sounding like a particularly grumpy T-Rex.

It is, quite simply, a work of art. A mad, crazy, beguiling work of art.

  • The vendor tells us that everything in the cabin functions just as it should, with no faults or issues to declare

Exterior

  • Striking gloss white paintwork with contrasting black gloss trim
  • The paintwork looks to be in very good condition, with just a couple of chips and minor blemishes to the paint and front splitter

  • Panels are well aligned, with consistent and tight gaps
  • The rear compartment and boot space are shielded with heavily tinted privacy glass

  • The wheels are shod in a matched set of Michelin PilotSport 4S tyres (265/35 front and 295/30 rear), which look to be in good order and were fitted in May 2023

Mechanical

  • 0-62mph in less than 3 seconds
  • 410mm AP Racing discs with road pads and Ferrodo DS1.11 track pads
  • We’re told that the front discs (which are new) are in need of a skim after changing from track pads to road pads – the vendor is happy to have this work done for the new owner
  • Fully aligned lowering kit controlled via OBD plug-in device (included) – offer a 10mm drop in ‘Normal’ mode and 20mm in ‘Sport’
  • Updated, stronger front differential from later facelift model E63 AMG
  • Full custom one-piece 3.5" downpipes and 3" cat-back exhaust system
  • ZAC Motorsport carbon air-boxes and blow-off valve kit
  • Spool Performance HP and LP fuel kits, including rerouted fuel filter and lines
  • Stealth install Aquamist water methanol injection system hidden under the boot floor
  • Hybrid Littco turbochargers – apparently capable of delivering upwards of 1,200bhp
  • Various heat management upgrades, including increased flow for the intercooler, and wrapped charge coolers
  • Tuned CPC/TCU/ECU with many hours spent dialling in the car to be completely usable day to day
  • We’re told it “drives like a stock E63 AMG” when used in normal, everyday driving
  • Flex fuel sensor included but not wired in – the vendor tells us the plan was to try running the car on E85, but they decided 1,033bhp was probably enough…
  • The car sounds fabulous, with a sinister burbling at idle that snarls into a guttural howl as the revs increase and includes a light crackle on the overrun
  • The vendor tells us that the car runs perfectly, with no mechanical issues or problems they are aware of

Summary

We love a Q-car. The combination of subtle yet muscular styling, a bit of luxury and a surprising amount of shove is a most attractive proposition. And when the package is delivered as well as this, you almost want to stand and applaud.

You could genuinely use this everyday to nip to the shops, take the kids to school, run the dogs to the groomers and take your mom for a spot of lunch. Then, on the weekend, you could blow a Lamborghini into the weeds or go McLaren hunting. It’s a car that knows it’s crackers, but has no qualms about it.

We’ve changed our minds. This isn’t a wolf. It’s a velociraptor with a rocket pack. No, two rocket packs. And a bazooka. It’s quite, quite mad. But utterly wonderful.
