1987 PORSCHE 911 3.2 SAFARI

For sale is my incredibly unique Safari 911. First registered in 1987 as a 3.2 G50 car, this car has enjoyed a very easy life covering a mere 77,000 warranted miles to date. All panels on the car are original, and there is plenty of history detailing the fastidious care from its 3 previous keepers. The base car really was a lovely, cherished example, in very good condition. In 2023, the car was purchased by Heritage Autowerks (who have known the car for 25+ years) from their client who owned an exceptional collection including a Ferrari 250 SWB. Given their highly impressive level of work and connection with Singer Porsche, Heritage Autowerks are respected within the classic Porsche community and are widely recognised as the go-to Safari builders, having built 3 of them. This car was an in-house project and not a customer commission. The Special Projects Department of Heritage Autowerks completed the Safari conversion, and the result was a no expense spared Safari build, with hundreds of hours of development in design and fabrication. To complete this build today, you would be spending well over £200,000
The exterior of the car presents immaculately. During the restoration, well respected Riviera Autobody were commissioned to completely strip the car and fabricate tucked bumpers to keep the original wheel length of the car even with the added crash bars, and the arches were modified to ensure the exceptionally cool BF Goodrich tyres were cleared. Bespoke brush guards with tow-hooks built in were designed, and even the decals are custom and unique to this car. Being an ex-Porsche Singer representative, even a custom singer-style badge for the rear was fabricated. There are many other exceptional small details around the car, for example the engine grill which subtly reads ‘3.2’ as part of the grill – you can see this in the photos. Cibie bonnet lights were fitted, along with a lightweight ducktail on the rear as per true Safari specification. The car also features a Safari roof rack holding sand ladders, a petrol can painted to match the decals and fuchs, and finally the storage box. There are many unique parts that were fabricated just for this build, however preserving the 1980’s Porsche aesthetics and originality were vital.
Moving inside, the interior space in this Safari boasts classic Porsche ergonomics. The interior has been completely retrimmed to the highest of standards, with Tartan cloth highlights which evoke the true retro 80’s spirit that this car omits. The design and colours were chosen to replicate how a true Safari interior looked in the 1980’s. The front seats are electric sports seats, and the rear seats have been removed with a half-cage installed emphasising the Safari experience. Also added, are a lovely Momo Prototipo steering wheel and a 917-style gear knob. A period correct style continental DAB radio is fitted. Coupled to this are uprated speakers offering high quality audio. The car also features USA sourced CoCo mats and a lightweight carpet set.
Mechanically, the car is beyond perfect. The engine is a low mileage unit, however an engine rebuild has been completed in January 2025 (less than 200 miles ago) for peace of mind. I also replaced the clutch, along with many oil/fuel pipes, and plenty of other items which are all detailed across various invoices. All work was purely preventative, and nothing was necessary. The work was carried out by a reputable specialist. Additionally, the car has been to a very well-respected motorsport mechanic who spent countless hours developing the perfect geometry setup for this car. We tested many different tyres, weights, angles, ride heights and various suspension setups before settling on the current one. The specification of this car is far too long to list here; however I will add that the suspension is all uprated with correct Bilstein shocks, the braking system has been overhauled with uprated hardware and discs, and the car also benefits from being on SSI’s. As I say, the specification is far too long, therefore if you are interested, please do call/ view. I recently had the car dry ice blasted and the underbody completely protected.
Accompanying the car, is the original book pack inclusive of the service book which is extremely impressive and bursting with stamps, the original toolkit, and folder containing invoices and receipts detailing the care this car has received from its 3 previous keepers over the last 37 years. Naturally, the car was last serviced less than 30 days ago whilst the engine was being rebuilt.
This car is a true reflection of creativity, detail and most importantly, passion. It has had thousands of hours spent bringing a vision to reality. During my ownership, I have cared for this car on a no-expense spared basis, and it has proven to be my favourite cars within my collection. This Safari is an absolute show-stopper, and everywhere I have taken it, the car has been welcomed with such positive interactions from classic car shows to my local petrol station. People cannot take their camera out quick enough! If you are looking for a restored, investment grade and exceptionally unique classic car that cannot be replicated for anything near the asking price, this Safari 911 may be perfect for you. The car is kept in my heated garage along with the rest of my collection. Viewings are welcome.
