If you know your JDM history, the name JUN Auto Mechanic needs no introduction. Founded by the late Junichi Tanaka, JUN has built a legacy as one of Japan’s most revered tuning houses. With roots as an engine research facility under Tanaka Industrial Co. Ltd., JUN evolved into a world-class performance parts manufacturer and motorsports powerhouse. Their parts—camshafts, stroker kits, valves—are engineered with obsessive precision and proven in record-breaking builds.

[A Legacy Sprayed in Yellow]

In the early '90s, JUN made headlines by sending a 300ZX to 422 km/h (262 mph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats. But speed records were just the beginning. Throughout the golden era of JDM tuning, JUN churned out legendary demo cars—from the RX-7 and Supra to the Impreza, Evo, and Skyline GT-R. But no car captured the imagination of enthusiasts quite like the JUN Super Lemon RII.

Sporting its unmistakable JUN Yellow paint and aggressive aero, the Super Lemon RII became the stuff of legend. It was a monster on the street and a star on screen—Jeremy Clarkson famously featured it in the Top Gear: No Limits DVD, describing it as “Semtex with a steering wheel.” Performance figures? Try 0–60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 0–190 mph in 12 seconds, and a top speed of 234 mph. In the early 2000s, it was untouchable.

[The Resurrection]

After years of silence, the Super Lemon RII was discovered resting in storage. But legends don’t die—they evolve. The car’s owner decided it was time to awaken the beast, and SMD Garage was entrusted with modernising the GT-R while preserving its original soul. The result is nothing short of breathtaking.

SMD meticulously built the car from the ground up, taking care of all mechanical aspects and custom fabrication. They refreshed the chassis, updated the suspension, and gave the engine bay a full makeover, plus so much more. Meanwhile, Imageworx painstakingly recreated the iconic decals to OEM perfection. The car now blends its storied past with cutting-edge tuning know-how, and it shows.

The car was stripped down to bare metal, and the bodywork entrusted to a coachworks facility known for painting supercars Acton coachworks. The result? A flawless, concours-level finish that brings the original JUN Yellow paint back to life—brighter and sharper than ever.

On a conservative tune at 1.8 bar, the JUN Super Lemon RII lays down a colossal 821 bhp thanks to the wonderful mapping at Enginetuner. With more boost and race fuel (or E85), it’s ready to flirt with four-figure horsepower. But this isn’t just about raw power—the build is a masterclass in craftsmanship. Every component feels like it belongs in a museum, yet every bolt serves a purpose. It’s brutal beauty in motion.
