Part of the reason that Porsche is such a successful brand with such a loyal, almost cult, following is that they listen to their customers extremely well. After the limited production run of the 911 R finished Porsche realised the appetite for a wingless manual GT3 was massive, plus there were plenty of customers who were very unhappy about not getting a 911 R slot. Porsche listened and so the GT3 Touring was born. The GT3 Touring packs the same 4.0L flat-six from the GT3 revving all the way to a biblical 9,000rpm and shooting the touring from 0-60mph in just 3.9s. Rear wheel steering, 44mm wider track and 25mm lower suspension over the 911 Carrera give the GT3 touring that superior performance handling and stance. The lack of the fixed rear wing makes the GT3 a wolf in sheep’s clothing, whilst the non-optional 6-Speed GT Sports manual transmission ensure maximum driver engagement. From a practical standpoint the lack of rear seats create a cavernous 2-tier parcel shelf which coupled with the front boot provide ample storage to live up to the ‘touring’ name. Overall the GT3 Touring offers Porsche enthusiasts a viable alternative to the more expensive 911 R, striking a perfect balance between understated practical design and visceral driver engagement.
