I have booked my car in at a dealers - it's for a while-you-wait MOT appointment. I just checked its location and whilst I expected some bad reviews (it's Croydon innit) but I haven't seen this many 'one-stars' since primary school(!) Will they have me over a barrel (name - hint) and should I take it somewhere else?! Of course it could partly be idiot customers, or those with unrealistic expectations ...

It's an MOT.

If you're not happy with the result you can complain to the DVSA or whatever they're called this week.

Croydon is no where near as bad as people would imply. It's a typical multi-cultural place with some wealthy areas and some obviously less so.

There's a few pockets which I wouldn't bother with, mainly the night life but even in my younger days I can honestly say there was never any trouble I experienced.

When you say Croydon OP, where exactly is it? I live in a CR post code so under the borough yet come under Surrey. A lot gets labelled as Croydon and could be 7-8 miles away from the town anyway.

I don’t want to name and shame but look for the clue in my post. It’s not got great reviews - come to think of it will look for a garage even further away!

The clue was lost on me mate I'm afraid. haha

I will admit to having used Kwik-Fit in South Croydon purely for an MOT on two vehicles. Again while you wait so I've been able to see the cars as they are inspected and both absolutely fine.

If it worries you though, definitely book in elsewhere. Regardless of location go by feedback that you see online and make a judgement call. smile

Will be fine, just wear a stab vest under your shirt and lock yourself in the toilets whilst the MOT is being done.

I will have my carbon fibre karting vest so hopefully that will provide some deflection. I'm actually more scared of being lumped into the same reception area with some screaming chav mum on a £200 per month PCP. You can get a 118i for that these days!

You’re not naming and shaming though. Pretty sure PH allows you to ask “I’m looking to use this garage, anyone got any views?”

Exactly. I would expect the average PH'er to be fairer than your typical customer. You know some customers expect to be treated like princes/princesses. I'm more concerned about them damaging my car, adding extra items for no reason etc. If they don't bloke smoke up my ar8e or I have to wait a bit longer than expected then i'm not going to be too harsh on a garage!

If its for either of your cars in your garage..

Honda on Brighton Road - Not sure about the dealers but not the roughest part of Croydon.

Audi in Coulsdon - Nice part of Croydon (may be slightly biased) but yes, its an Audi dealer and you will be charged accordingly for any repairs!

I have taken all my cars here including my TVR Tuscan and they are great.

Owner has an old Griff.

They wont rip you off if you want an MOT in Croydon.

Bent over a barrel - who makes barrels? I have an M3. (Ah, my garage is a bit out of date ... I miss that CR-V)

If you are worried about Croydon, why not take a trip out for the day.

May I suggest Bradford, Keighley or some areas of Manchester or Liverpool

Fair enough I just had a Google at their dealership there. Aside from the small problem of driving there from London, and the possibility of having the car stolen, or worse, crashed into by a wayward Golf R, it gets decent review scores .. until you look at the reviews specifically for servicing!
It seems they have a habit of breaking things on customer cars. Maybe the Croydon one is okay. (P.S. thanks - will check out the M.O.T. garages - though they are always in awkward places with bad parking)

They look like your typical old school garage that will fix minor things for free i.e bulbs, good to see some are still about !

I live in Croydon on the Whitgift estate which is very nice. But like most places some parts of Croydon are a bit naff.

If you look at the amount of money currently being invested around East and Central Croydon, gentrification is on the march. As for my neighbours they all seem to be spending silly money either knocking down their houses and rebuilding them or doing major upgrades. A couple of the preferred building companies in the area are racking it in

Not a clue who you mean! Narrow it down! laugh

I would point out that most Google reviews are of bad service, or to be honest, implied bad service because the reviewer doesn't want to pay whatever it is. Probably more that than actual bad service
