The good news keeps coming thick and fast for Rimac. Just this month saw Porsche increase its stake in the company, followed by confirmation that the firm will likely feature in some sort of joint venture with Bugatti. Now - with the UK Minister of Trade standing over its corporate shoulder - it has announced that it will establish a research and development office in Britain this year.
Located at the Warwick Enterprise Park, the new R&D centre will seek to employ up to 30 people by the end of 2021. The choice of location is plainly no accident, given the site's proximity to Gaydon and all the other automotive expertise concentrated in the Midlands. Rimac already enjoys a productive working relationship with both Aston Martin and JLR.
Current recruitment is limited - only a Senior Battery Systems Engineer is being sought for the location at the moment - though founder Mate Rimac seems confident of building out the UK team in the future: "While we are starting with a small office, we might expand significantly in the years to come, working on Rimac's future projects, while closely collaborating with our team of engineers, designers and technicians back in Croatia."
The R&D base obviously furthers Rimac's presence in the UK, with H.R. Owen already serving as a sales partner. We're told to expect a production version of the 258mph C_Two imminently as well, after a heavily trailed development process. Given the progress made by the company in just the past month, it seems unlikely we're going to be waiting very much longer for the first of the new EV hypercar breed. What on earth is 0-100mph in 4.3 seconds going to feel like?
