VW has announced that the new ID7 GTX, the 340hp flagship of the ID7 range, will go on sale from August 1st - just in time for the new 74 plate. It will cost from £61,980 as a five-door, or £62,670 as a Tourer.
As a reminder, both hatch and wagon get an 86kWh battery that can charge at up to 200kW and deliver up to 366 miles of range. The addition of a front motor means 4Motion in an ID7 for the first time, and 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds (or 5.4 for the liftback). Standard kit will include 20-inch Skagen wheels, IQ Light Matrix LED lights, Harmon Kardon sound, heated and cooled seats plus subtle GTX styling add ons.
VW says that the GTX ‘adds a performance edge to what is already an incredibly well received and award winning package’. Certainly the ID7 won’t be short of rivals; a BMW i4 eDrive 40 M Sport is from £62,590, a Tesla Model 3 Performance £59,990, and a long range, dual-motor, Performance Packed Polestar 2 from £57,950 (which is currently discounted to £52,950). But those after a performance EV wagon have far fewer options - that’s the ID7 GTX we’ll aim to drive as soon as possible.
