You have to feel sorry for American car fans, sometimes, given all the great stuff they’re often denied. Especially when it seems certain vehicles would suit the market so well - the fast Audi wagon being one of them. They never got the RS2 and not all RS4s or 6s made it across the Atlantic either; and what could be better suited to the land of cheap gas, big roads and a nationwide fondness for lifestyling than a big, fast Audi?
Nowadays, the problem has been rectified, with the latest and greatest RS6 now available to customers in North America. To celebrate the fact, and because Audi can’t go two weeks without painting a car Nogaro Blue, a Tribute Edition of the C8 RS6 Avant has been announced. You can probably guess the rest of it…
The RS6 Avant RS Tribute Edition pays homage to that one built with Porsche’s help with the paint - but of course - red painted brake calipers, body coloured mirrors, Denim Blue contrast stitching, carbon twill structure inlays and a set of snazzy 22-inch wheels.
Otherwise, it’s the RS6 that’s making quite a name for itself on both sides of the Atlantic, with 600hp from an electrified V8. For the Tribute, Audi has fitted the sports exhaust and Driver Assistance Package on top. Just 25 will be made, marking 25 years (and a bit) since the world got very excited about a very special 80 Avant in RS Blue Pearl Effect. Each will cost its buyer $136,800, or a fair chunk more than the $109,000 an RS6 starts at over there. Still, it looks fantastic, doesn’t it? There isn’t a Tribute announced for Europe yet, where this RS6 is less significant – in terms of significance – than it is in the States, but then there must be plenty of the paint lying around the factory. Can we have a few as well?
