The first Sunday Service of 2025 is now in our rearview mirror, but there was plenty going on at the Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset that’ll keep it fresh in the memory for a while yet. Whether it’s the 450 cars in attendance, the museum’s impressive collection or the live Smith and Sniff podcast, we kicked off the year with quite a bang.
Despite the bitterly cold conditions and misty drizzle that undid any detailing sessions from the day before, Sunday’s turnout was as eclectic as it was extensive. We had a beautiful little Porsche 964 RS, a manual Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2, a facelifted Toyota GR Yaris (one of the first we’ve seen out in the wild) and a stunning E46 BMW M3 CSL. On top of that, we had full sets of several models, including all three versions of the Mini GP, a 718 Cayman GT4 and GT4 RS, Ferrari 458s in both GTB and Speciale grades, plus an F80 M3 and F82 M4 in identical spec.
After a good hour of roaming the car park, it was off to the museum to thaw out while ogling its nicely curated classics. The museum really does have every base covered; it claims to possess the largest collection of cars and bikes in the UK. Little wonder when there are rooms dedicated to British classics, vintage American cruisers and cars that are red. Seriously. For F1 geeks, there was a room dedicated to Williams with Nigel Mansell’s FW14, Damon Hill’s FW17 and Juan Pablo Montoya’s FW23. There’s even some classic junior single-seaters on display, too, with Ayrton Senna’s Formula Ford and Lewis Hamilton’s old Formula Renault car.
Then, it was time for the headline act. As you may know, we’ve been working with Richard Porter and Jonny Smith from the Smith and Sniff podcast for several months now and the intention has always been to get the chaps along to a Sunday Service for a live pod. Safe to say that it was another belter of an ‘On that live of things’ recording, with all the money raised from the ticket sales going straight to Mission Motorsport, helping them do what they do best.
A huge thank you to everyone who made our first Sunday Service of the year such a memorable one. That goes to the Haynes Motor Museum for opening its doors to hundreds of PHers on a cold and wet Sunday morning, to Richard and Jonny for putting on a cracker of a live show and to Mission Motorsport as well. You can join the conversation on the original thread here.
We’ll have more information on our next Sunday Service in the near future, but you can keep the conversation going from our Haynes trip at the link here. Furthermore, be sure to register your interest for this year’s Annual Service, which takes place on 9th August, and let us know if you’d like to join us for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and Classic. One thing’s for sure, the next 12 months should be a belter...
