Sometimes a car comes along with a name so outrageous that you can’t actually think of a gag to do it justice. The Maybach Zeppelin is one of them. Is that Zeppelin as in Stairway to Heaven or as in exploding ball of flames?
Who knows, but what we do know is there are going to be just 100 of these special editions produced and they will be based on the 57 and 62 limo. The Zeppelin name is actually one that Maybach had used in the 30s and, well why not bring it back in ’09?
Of course this being a Maybach there is a whole smorgasbord of goodies inside including a ‘world first sophisticated perfume atomiser’, which pumps the owner’s favourite scent into the car at the touch of a button. And if you thought perfumes were expensive try £3,500 for the atomiser alone.
Hopefully you’ll be too busy reclining on the diamond-quilted seat cushions to care though, feet lying on the lambskin carpets. The car comes in Rocky Mountains Light Brown and Taiga black paint (why wouldn’t it?) and the whole kit and caboodle is powered by a mildly tweaked 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12.
Power is now up 28bhp to 631bhp and there is 737lb ft of torque. The Maybach Zeppelin goes on sale in March ’09. First deliveries kick off in September and German prices start at £365,000 for the 57 and £425,000 for the 62.
