Mud park. Bounty hole. Trucks Gone Wild. Al Benesocky's Filthy Redneck Country Club. These are some of the most American concepts it is possible to imagine, phrases which, while deep down the rabbit hole of recommended YouTube videos, we've been recently introduced to. Except, shockingly, this video doesn't take place in the good ol' US of A, but north of the border in Canada.
For those of you who haven't just dedicated hours to watching monster trucks ploughing into Olympic-swimming-pool-sized pits of mud and water, here's the lowdown: people plough monster trucks into Olympic-swimming-pool-sized pits of mud and water. It's as simple as that. The objective seems to be to make it through to the other side - an all but impossible feat, even for these behemoths - but just getting farther than the last guy seems to be good enough for most.
There are some absolutely fantastic vehicles involved, too, from conventional mega trucks to some truly unique creations - including a monster stretch limo. Then there's the hero of the tale, the diminutive Sherp with its 44hp motor and 28mph top speed, showing that it takes brains not brawn to defeat the bounty hole. That's not really the point, though, and it's certainly not what we're here to see; the other entrants making for a form of motorsport which is much more compelling than it has any right to be.
The rules of the event are simple: "Treat everyone like they're your best friend and keep the park clean and safe." A weekend pass with camping included costs just $60, there are no safety fences, no pit stops, and certainly no team orders. At one point a woman even jumps into the mud, swims to one of the participants and climbs into his vehicle. If we ever find ourselves near Waldron, Saskatchewan, we'll be sure to drop by - but in the meantime we'll make do with watching today's video on repeat...
