When a car has been owned for over a decade, modifications tend to happen. It could be making it quicker, lighter, more comfortable or even trying to bring it in line with more modern cars. PHer Matty has owned his classic Mini for 14 years; in that time he's rebuilt the engine six times and the car is now on its third complete rebuild in his quest for "more power, less weight... and more speed!"
The shell has been lightened where possible. Anything irrelevant has been removed including rear bins, the rear bench, battery box and every unused bracket. It is now below 500kg. Using the original A-Series block, Matty has fitted a BMW K1100 16v head which is now turbocharged and said to be capable of 300hp. The gearbox is also using the original A-Series casting but modified to take a Honda VFR six-speed sequential gearbox. This Mini sounds like quite the weapon so far and it will be interesting to see it on track.
So congratulations Matty, your classic Mini is our Reader's Car of the Week. Read the full build thread here.
