BMW's smart display key for the
G11 7 Series
will not only lock and unlock your new car but, thanks to Remote Control Parking, will allow the owner to slot the car in a parking space by merely swiping a thumb. Alongside that, the 2.2 inch touchscreen on the key fob can display driving range, service intervals and a few other options. The cost of this technology? £230. Having looked at this thread, that price seems entirely reasonable!
A thread on the forum started in 2012 discusses prices of replacement keys for multiple makes and models. A Nissan GT-R intelligent key was quoted as costing anywhere between £600 and £850 to be replaced, with a wait time of six weeks.
The most shocking price is from Maserati, with one PHer being quoted £6,500 for a replacement red service key for his 3200 GT. Granted, the price included the red key, two new normal keys, two new door locks, new alarm and immobiliser and labour. But that still looks like a hell of a lot of money!
What is the most absurd price you have been quoted for a replacement car key? Let us know here.
