So-called 'spy video' footage doing the rounds on the web today reveals the next-generation Porsche 911 (or 998) will be a little lower and wider than its (997) predecessor - although the rest of the design appears pleasingly (or not, as the case may be!) predictable.
The video comes via YouTube and German motoring title AMS. While the images of this 998 prototype don't give too much away, associated reports indicate the all-new 911 will share some of its components with the Cayman to help keep a lid on cost.
One of the key developments lurking beneath the prototype's disguise is said to be a new active aerodynamic package at the front and rear, while the car will be built from a mix of aluminium and steel to save weight.
Apparently engines will be carry-over versions of the current units, presumably with a little more power, and in spite of the obvious family lineage every panel on the car will be new.
The 998 is scheduled to hit showrooms in 2012, so will probaby be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show next year.
We're not sure how the video originated but, cynics to the last, we think it's interesting that it surfaced just prior to the McLaren MP4-12C launch scheduled for tomorrow.
