This may look like the strange mongrel resulting from an Audi R8 humping a Maserati Gran Turismo (or possibly still in the act, if you're unkind, which we're not), but the broad toothy grin facing you is in fact
the Zenvo ST1, the first 100 per cent Danish supercar
. We've got some more detail on the car first unveiled at this year's Le Mans, and the numbers are rather impessive.
Its maker Zenvo Automotive is based near Copenhagen, and has been developing the ST1 since 2004. What's in a name, you ask? Well, rather a lot here: S stands for Supercharger, T for Turbocharger, and 1 for - er - 1. The car uses a supercharger and a turbocharger to give its 7.0-litre V8 1104bhp. Crikey.
According to Zenvo, the idea is to create a linear power curve that makes the ST1 more predictable for everyday driving. Making over 1000bhp usable for everyday driving seems a rather tall order, but Zenvo is really emphasising this, complimenting it with a luxurious cabin with standard air con, sat nav, DVD player, electric adjustable seats, keyless start and head-up display.
That lot should carry some weight, but the steel spaceframe and carbon fibre body help the ST1 keep to a slim 1376kg, making it good for 802bhp per tonne. According to Zenvo's website, 0-62mph comes up in three seconds flat, and top speed is quoted as 233mph! The assorted scoops and spoilers around that striking body should help keep it stable at such speeds, and the now-compulsory rear diffuser is standard fit.
Refreshingly, the ST1 comes with a six-speed manual 'box as standard, with paddle shift available on the options list. Also rather unusually, the engine is a 'Bio Flex' unit that can run on 98 octane unleaded, E85 bio fuel, or a combination of the two. Fuel consumption data is not available yet, but the clever fuelling coupled with the car's careful aerodynamics and light weight should make for an impressive figure - at least for something with a 1104bhp V8!
Despite this release of further details, there is still no official word on price or availability.
