It may only be January, but the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed is fast approaching. Just think, it won’t be long until the sun’s out and you’re standing outside Goodwood House watching some of the greatest cars on planet Earth take on the world-famous hillclimb. And now we’re a step closer to knowing what will be on show, as this year’s event (11th - 14th July) has been given a theme: ‘Horseless to Hybrid - Revolutions in Power.’
You’d be right in thinking that’s a pretty broad theme, encompassing quite literally every era of motoring bar the bit immediately after the invention of the wheel. Of course, this is exactly what makes the Festival of Speed an absolute must for enthusiasts. The idea behind the headline, as you might expect, is that we’re at a crossroads when it comes to powering virtually anything that moves in the future. It was the same story during the first ever competitive motor race, the Paris-Rouen Trial, in 1894, where electric, steam, petrol and many other fuels vied to replace the horse and carriage as the future of propulsion. Expect hundreds of cars, bikes and vehicles representing the past, present and future of things that get from static A to gleesome B.
While there are no specific details just yet on what cars we can expect to see on the Goodwood hill and rally stage, the Festival of Speed will once again be marking a number of key anniversaries. This includes the 50th anniversary of the Shadow team’s Can-Am championship win and 40 years since endurance legend Joest won its first Le Mans 24 Hours. This year also marks what would have been Niki Lauda’s 75th birthday, along with the 50th anniversary of his first Grand Prix victory and 40 years since his last Formula 1 championship win.
Of course, that’s just scratching the surface of what’s set to be another belter of a Festival. Not to mention car manufacturers descending on the grounds of Goodwood house in droves, showcasing their latest wares both on the hill and in stands of all sizes. Want to be there already? Well, you'll be delighted to hear that early bird tickets are available now and are selling fast, so there's no better time to get in early and secure a space - and save some money in the process. We’ll see you there!
