For anyone fortunate enough to have driven a McLaren 720S on circuit, or indeed having just watched videos like this one, it's difficult to imagine a craving for greater performance. After all, this is a car that has lapped some tracks quicker than a P1, so it's hardly lacking...
Still, nothing wrong with being even better still - right? To that end the McLaren says the TP takes "the British supercar to the next level for owners who want to exploit its formidable dynamic abilities on a circuit." Weight is reduced by 24kg for this car, the Track Pack taking the regular 720S in Performance spec and adding 'Super-Lightweight' forged wheels and carbon seats to save the weight. In addition the Track Packed Super Series receives 'MSO Defined Satin Visual Carbon Fibre Extended Gearshift Paddles', an 'MSO Defined Gloss Finish Visual Carbon Fibre Active Rear Spoiler' and a, er, 'Sports Exhaust'. See also the titanium bar behind the seats that supports harnesses for driver and passenger. Should your track driving exploits not have scared them off fully, an in-depth run through of the session on the standard McLaren Track Telemetry system (MTT) will surely do the trick.
The car is mechanically standard, which it's hard to imagine many complaining about when a 720S reaches 124mph before a Swift Sport hits 62. McLaren says the Track Pack "establishes a new pinnacle of track focus within McLaren's core Super Series line up" while also extending "the wide breadth of 720S capability" even further. With one in ten Sports Series customers opting for the Track Pack on their 570S, a similar proportion of 720S customers seems likely.
The price they'll pay for the current flagship of the Super Series range is £224,700, a £28,360 premium over the standard car. McLaren says the price represents a saving over the cost of purchasing the options individually, which is eminently believable given the last 720S we drove featured £47,190 of extras. Orders are being invited now, with first deliveries due next year.
