While the latest Defender's most likely habitat will be a jungle made from concrete (don't forget the Urban Pack), that fact isn't going to prevent Land Rover from pushing its off-road cred. So for those "short overnight camping trips of lengthy overland expeditions" there's now this, the Autohome bespoke roof tent.
Described as being "as tough and capable as the vehicle it was created for", the Autohome tent is said to be simple enough that it can be raised by one person in a matter of seconds. Once the protective fibreglass shell is unclipped, the gas struts take over and erect the tent to its fullest extent. At which point the tent is 2.3m long, 1.3m wide and 1.5m high. Land Rover says it's big enough for two to bunk in (mattress and pillows come as standard), with an interior light, stowage net and aluminium access ladder as well. The latter has a storage bag when not in use, and the tent itself folds back into the shell to be stored flat when the time has come to reach your next adventure. Perfect for any expedition.
If you're the kind of "modern-day explorer" this Autohome tent is being pitched at (pun certainly intended), then you might have to scrimp on globetrotting supplies to get the Defender so equipped. Only available on the Defender 110 (from £45,240), the tent requires the Adventure Pack before it can be fitted for an additional €3,081.96 plus VAT. At today's exchange rate, that's £3,300. Let's call it £50k minimum, then, to have an Autohome tent on a Defender. Still, factor in the priceless experiences that ought to definitely result, and perhaps £50,000 is merely the price of entry. Plus, if we have to lockdown again, where better to be than a camp-ready Defender full to the roof tent with isolation supplies?
