While the 25-year exemption rule on imports in the US, enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has recently got many excited about Japanese cars, there are many more turn-of-the-century icons that are soon to be eligible. A good few come from TVR, and TVR Garage is now on hand for Stateside customers to take advantage.
The company was launched at Monterey car week last year, bringing the gorgeous Rosso Pearl and Amethyst 4.2 and 4.5 Cerberas you see here to exhibit among all the silly stuff of Carmel Valley. As 1997 cars, they could have been brought over to the USA as early as 2022; another couple of years down the line the earliest Tuscans can now be exported, with the Tamora not far off either. Yes, we really are all that old.
The TVR Garage approach is simple: import the best examples of our favourite sports cars, while providing ‘peace of mind and end-to-end ownership support to its customers’. It’s in partnership with UK specialist Str8six, who are on hand to provide their 20 years of expertise and experience to those taking the plunge in America. TVR Garage also has an online store selling service items, parts and merch across North America. A deal has been struck with DuPont Registry and Classic.com additionally, to make more people aware of what TVR Garage - and the TVR cars - really are.
The company is based out of Tucson, Arizona, with approved service locations in California and Florida. It’s obviously hard to cover 50 states with a trio of spots, though that’s a pretty good spread. And California feels like a smart move; if esoteric classic British sports cars are going to be popular anywhere, it’s the west coast.
Andi Hughes, co-founder of TVR Garage with Gavin Bristow, said: “Our aim is to provide to our customers an ownership experience as unique as the clients themselves. TVR offers an unrivalled motoring experience, providing a raw and visceral analogue connection that stirs all the senses. In a world of uninspiring EVs, we wish to offer the dedicated driving enthusiast a pure driving experience in their downtime”. The lovely silver Cerbera you see here is already spoken for, but a Griffith 500 is for sale with TVR Garage already. Str8six is on the lookout for Tuscans registered from 2000 onwards, if you know of a car, and also has a glorious 1997 Cerbera 4.2 for sale. Best get it before an American customer wants that as well…
