Nobody could accuse Lamborghini of half-measures when it came to its 60th anniversary in 2023. As well as revealing its first factory-backed sportscar racer, it launched the first Lamborghini series production hybrid. And made lots of excellent Huracan Sterratos. It was a good year for Lamborghini.
The celebrations didn’t end there, however, as in a final surprise for the big 6-0, Lambo gave the Dubai Police an Urus Performante. Because of course they did. The handover was part of the Dubai Airshow in December, though information and images have only now been made widely available.
Any kind of Urus is guaranteed to make an impact (that’s precisely the point), and there’ll certainly be no missing this 666hp Performante in its trademark green with white livery. Though mechanically standard, the Lamborghini has been prepared and upgraded for use as an actual police vehicle - this is no mere show car. So there are lights and sirens, of course, plus a ‘special compartment in the boot for storing service equipment’, an armoured gun box and a defibrillator. Always good to have both.
As you might expect, none of that has made a significant impact on the performance of the Urus, with 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds still claimed and a top speed of 190mph. Just what you need to keep pace (and the peace) with everything else in Dubai.
In one of the stranger press release soundbites, Dubai Police's acting commander-in-chief General Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani said the new Performance ‘will support Dubai police in their commitment to better serve residents, maintain social safety and security, and provide services in popular tourist destinations.' Quite a lot for one car to do.
Lambo's Middle East boss, Paolo Sartori, added: “We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Dubai Police, supporting them in their crucial public safety mission. Following our delivery of an Urus to the force in 2022, this new Urus Performante edition will be used to carry out a range of public duties and, above all, will help enhance the city’s security and safety, with this initiative further demonstrating our brand’s longstanding presence here in the UAE.” Beats carrying out a range of public duties in a Peugeot 308. And what a way to travel to the station if you ever are on the wrong side of the law…
