First things first; this isn't a road car. The Renaultsport Trophy is a racer for the Renault World Series designed 'solely for competition'. It's just seeing Renaultsport and Trophy again, especially after the reaction to the
Trophy-R Megane
, meant the subtitle had to be manipulated a little.
When a Megane Trophy goes really mad
So it's 'just' a race car, but one that could be hugely exciting. The silhouette is low and sleek with a huge rear wing for even greater visual impact. Power for the Trophy comes from a NISMO engine with over 500hp, powering through a Sadev 7-speed sequential 'box. Thanks to a Dallara carbon monocoque the Trophy is expected to weigh only 1,100kg.
It will compete in a World Series single-make race from next year, with testing underway shortly. Renaultsport will unveil the Trophy at the Moscow motor show (scouting out potential entrants perhaps?) at the end of August. For now here's a current Renaultsport Trophy race car, the wonderfully barmy Megane V6. Any more news for us this week Renault?
