Even as standard, the BMW M3 Touring looks a heck of a prospect: more power and torque than the old V10 M5 wagon, fastest estate around the Nurburgring, and that snazzy interior update as well. But we all know some people will always want more, and that BMW loves to charge extra for options, so here are the M Performance Parts for the M3 Touring.
Naturally, some of the new bits are more appealing than most. It’s hard to imagine much demand for ‘M Performance logos for the LED door projectors’, but they’re available. Same goes for carbonfibre head restraint trims, ‘meticulously hand crafted’ CFRP mirror caps and carbon flics up front to ‘create a front-end clearly inspired by DTM touring car racers’. As if the M3’s front end needed any more divisive elements…
But there’s plenty to be encouraged by, too, including a titanium exhaust in one of the weirder quad arrangements we’ve ever seen. As well as being 30 per cent lighter than stock, BMW is promising ‘full-blooded racing car acoustics’ from the new system and the 3.0-litre, 510hp straight-six. There are no claims of any additional power, which is perhaps no surprise given it’s actually just silencer and tailpipe.
In addition, the M3 Touring will be offered with new height-adjustable coilover suspension from the M Performance Parts catalogue, as well as upgraded brake pads. BMW promises both are ‘hugely effective on the road as well as on the track.’ The wheels seen here are forged aluminium, which should help with unsprung mass and the M3’s stern ride; the black rims are 19-inch up front and 20s at the rear, with the gold M Performance cross-spokes measuring 20-inches at the front and 21s behind. On an M3!
BMW says the new range of accessories are the ‘ideal solution for customers looking to inject even greater dynamism into both the eye-catching design of the BMW M3 Touring and its compelling driving characteristics.’ And while it’s easy to take the mickey out of M-branded door locks (yes, seriously), it’s easy to imagine some interest in a bit more Alcantara inside and some carbon goodies. It’ll take a committed owner to go for the exhaust and coilovers, surely, though better to have the option than not.
The entire catalogue will be available at launch of the Touring, which is set for November.
