The seller of this BMW E36 M3 Evo Saloon has every right to be giddy at the prospect of this example, then. Just take a look at the advert. With a complete service history from the start, including the original windscreen with running-in sticker, two careful owners and 61,000 miles on the clock, it has lived a sweet and precious little life in Jersey since registration in 1996.
So let's look a little more at the beauty of the E36 M3, a generation that's now attracing a lot more attention as a classic M car after years in the doldrums. It was the first M3 to feature a straight six, with a 3.0-litre engine kicking out 290hp, and the first to be available in saloon form. Controversial at the time, but now look at the M3 - six cylinders, 3.0-litres, four doors. Just like the M3 before as well. Clearly something works about it...
This M3 Evo - a tag that only graced UK models - then got an upgraded 3.2-litre, 320hp unit with a six-speed manual gearbox, larger front brakes and firmer springs and dampers. Vanos variable valve timing, graphite-coated con-roads and larger intake valves all contributed to the big change the Evo tag suggested.
The saloon was launched in November 1995 in right-hand drive and only 694 were ever built, making this a well coveted example. The E36 doesn't tend to get much love in the committed M3 community, and £30k is strong money, but the niche upgrades of this model could have us reaching for our cheque books... whatever they are.
