Name: Gary Smith
Previously owned: Audi TT, VW Corrado VR6 (x3), BMW 330Ci, Jaguar XF SV8, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover, TVR T350T, Lotus Evora 400
Currently owned: BMW 440i (with gearchange and LSD mods by Birds and better than an M4, I reckon), Zenos E10R (road legal but optimised for track use) and Renaultsport Megane R26 F1 (big mistake - it has cost a fortune)
The Shed
BMW 320Ci (E46)
Cost: £1,495
Remaining balance: £98,505
Why I chose it: "I have a soft spot for BMW 3 Series coupes - for me they have that "feel-good" factor every time you drive them. This Shed looks up to the task of daily drives to the station for the commute."
The Brave Pill
TVR Tamora
Cost: £35,995
Remaining balance: £62,510
Why I chose it: "I made a mistake with my T350 - I bought an expensive very low mileage car and then spent a fortune on it: I cured the evil handling with new suspension, upgrading the brakes, fixing the engine and improving the interior with a complete Alcantara re-trim. If I had my time over again I would buy a Tamora like this one - it looks quite well sorted and would make a memorable car for those casual sunny Sunday jaunts. This particular car also appeals because it's yellow which, as everyone knows, is the fastest colour!"
The one still on sale
Range Rover Sport
Cost: £41,500
Remaining balance: £21,010
Why I chose it: "For me, Range Rovers have a unique attribute: you can enjoy driving them at any speed without the compulsion to overtake everything in sight. The Sport is just a bit smaller (and therefore more usable on British roads) than the full fat Range Rover. This one is in the perfect spec for me - a petrol V6, low mileage and good colour combination. Probably young enough to get a warranty as well - always wise with a JLR product! It would make a great do-it-all car (including towing the Radical to track days of course!).
Radical Prosport Hayabusa
Cost: £16,950
Remaining balance: £4,060 (just enough for a tow-bar for the Range Rover Sport and a secondhand trailer for the Radical!)
Why I chose it: "The public roads are so congested these days that a chance to drive full-bore on track is something to be savoured and I've enjoyed numerous track days over the last three years after buying my Zenos E10R in 2016. The Zenos is a fantastic, affordable, road legal track-car, but the next step for me is a dedicated track-only car and this Radical could fit the bill. This car is affordable, being 18 years old but could deliver thrills on track equal to much more expensive, newer machinery."
