We've talked about the fun of famous cars on our classifieds many times before. Whether that's F1-emailer Toto Wolff's AMG Black Series SL65 or, at the other end of the scale, her maj' Queen Elizabeth II's Bentley Mulsanne, seeing a celebrity name in the description is a sure-fire way to drum up interest - and add a few extra thousands to the asking price.
Well next onto the celebrity showroom floor is this delightful Gallardo Superleggera, which is one for the classic rock fans in the audience, as it has been confirmed by Lamborghini Manchester as once belonging to guitar deity and serial supercar-buyer, Mr Eric Clapton. It even has signatures from Valentino Balboni, former chief test driver of course, on the passenger side sun visor and the service pack wallet. So many famouses!
The Superleggera followed the regular hard-top, then the convertible Spyder in the Gallardo range, as the lightweight and slightly more powerful model. Lamborghini teased an additional 10hp from the 5.0-litre V10 courtesy of a new intake - but that was just for bragging rights over anyone with the earlier model.
Really the car was all about what had been removed; namely 100kg of burdensome mass thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre. The rear diffuser, undertray, interior door panels, central tunnel, engine cover, wheel nuts, and sports seats were fashioned from the stuff. Oh and you got titanium wheel nuts, too.
Clapton's example also comes with a huge spec list including carbon fibre door panels, side skirts, door mirrors and rear wing, plus Alcantara interior, 19in 'Scorpius' alloy wheels, a Lamborghini Orange County Rev.5 sports exhaust, and is finished in Grigio Telesto grey paintwork. Slowhand was never likely to scrimp, was he?
Given the new Lamborghini Countach was greeted with plenty of Gallardo styling comparisons, maybe going back to basics in the Lamborghini catalogue is a way to go. The car has seen several owners since Clapton, but it's still only covered 22k miles - and while it may be £114,995, but you can guarantee your evening drives will be Wonderful Tonight...
